About Our Preschool and Pre-K Programs

Your Preschooler’s Day

We have six units in our curriculum and all activities are tied to specific learning objectives. The typical daily structure for your preschooler might include:

Morning and Afternoon Circle time where the day’s themed activities are introduced and reviewed.

Activities in the Learning Centers to bring the day’s educational theme to life.

Math, Language, Literacy & Science activities tied to core standards to progressively build important foundational skills.

Music and movement (songs, poems and rhymes) to expand your child’s vocabulary and listening skills.

Outdoor play at least twice daily to burn off energy and develop motor skills.

Lunch and quiet time to nourish and rest your preschooler’s growing mind and body.

In addition, our fun summer camp program offers three months of learning, fun and sun—filled with exciting themes and activities that reinforce learning objectives and further school-readiness.

During the summer, we expand learning through visits from the Denver Zoo, The Butterfly Pavilion, and the Botanic Gardens. These carefully planned extension activities are incorporated into our own curriculum and give our preschoolers a chance to interact with their natural world.

Our preschool program inspires your child to examine, create, and share as he broadens his language through interactions with teachers and classmates in a safe, nurturing environment. Sensory and repetitive activities transform these new experiences into knowledge.

Three year and four year olds want to be independent. They want to explore, touch and mimic their peers and teachers. We use a core standards based curriculum that integrates language arts and literacy, mathematics, science, social and emotional development and gross and fine motor development.

Through learning centers and age-appropriate playgrounds, our preschoolers have the ability to work at their own pace and learn to do tasks independently.

About Our Toddler Program

Our Toddler Program uses hands-on exploration and social interaction in safe, engaging surroundings to help your one to two year old learn about his or her expanding world. Through the loving guidance of our teachers, toddlers enjoy learning experiences that promote their blossoming independence and social skills, and foster self-confidence.

Your Toddler’s Day

Our Toddler Program is designed around shared learning experiences that stimulate and challenge your child each and every day. The structure of a typical day in the life of your toddler might include:

  • Group activities like exploring books and singing songs.
  • Teacher-initiated activities like art or music.
  • Child-directed activities in our Learning Centers.
  • A snuggly story time.
  • Lunch and naptime to nourish and rest your child’s growing mind and body.
  • Outdoor play at least twice daily to burn off energy and develop motor skills.

We promote all areas of development in the following ways:

Physical Development
  • Large motor – encouraging movement through a variety of activities both indoors and out such as climbing, running, jumping, swinging, playing ball and other group activities
  • Small motor – activities that encourage hand eye coordination such as stringing beads, cutting, pasting, and block building
  • Balance – provide creative movements, obstacles and group activities that encourage balance
  • Eye-hand coordination – encourage children to use toys, books, and tools

Social Development
  • Independence – providing choices, encouraging self motivation, and self help skills
  • Self Esteem – positive reinforcement and encouraging self-exploration through sharing of feelings, stories, and dramatic play.
  • Behavioral skills – We will encourage good habits while discouraging bad ones.
  • Basic Routine – We will work on following the same pattern on a daily basis.

Intellectual Development
  • Language – encouraging speech, show & tell, story telling and reading.
  • Cognitive – exploring shapes, colors, books, puzzles, and matching games.
  • Creative – music activities, art and dramatic play.
  • Personal Growth – identify basic body parts and what each can do

About Our Infant Program

We at Wheat Ridge Learning Academy know you are looking for a safe and secure "home away from home” where your child can learn, play and grow. We have designed a comfortable, nurturing and creative world for your child to help their minds and bodies develop.

Infants are unique and have their own patterns for play, feeding and sleeping. We use these patterns as our guide to introduce daily activities that will prepare your infant for life. Our highly trained teachers offer a nurturing and creative environment for infants to develop their bodies and minds. We are committed to making this first transition away from home easy and natural for you and your child.

Nursing mothers are welcome to stop by during the day and nurse in our Infant classrooms. We also accommodate cloth diapers.

We encourage your child’s physical and emotional development in the following ways:
  • Movement – By encouraging rolling, scooting, crawling and walking with the use of a variety of tools supplied in the classroom.
  • Balance - Supportive sitting, swings, infant seats, chairs and most importantly one on one support.
  • Adequate rest - Allowing sleep as needed and directed by the parents.
  • Security - Responding to expressed needs.
  • Love and Care - Touching, holding, changing, playing and holding during feeding.
